The Bexar CountySheriff Office(BCSO) was established in 1731 and is among the oldest Law Enforecment Agencies in the nation. Bexar County is the sixteenth largest county in the United States and is the fourth largest county in Texas. the BCSO is led by Bexar County Sheriff Salazar.
The BCSO is responsible for establishing and maintaining a law enforcement agency, serving the courts operating the jail and is primarily responsible for providing law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Bexar County, however maintains jurisdiction thoughout the entire county
With in nearly 1900 employees and $135 Million operating budget, it is the 11th largest sheriff's office in the nation. As one of the fastest growing counties in the nation, Bexar County covers 1257 square miles and has a population of more that 1.8 million people.
The Bexar County Sheriff Office provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of the county, which covers 61 percent of the land area and 20 percent of the population. With an average daily population of around 3600 inmates, the Bexar County Adult Detention Centeris the 16th largest jail in the nation and third largest jail in Texas.
The Bexar County Sheriff's office is also charged with providing secutity for 58 judges in six diffrent buildings and more that three million visitors to the Court Services Complex Annually
