ABOUT: The Heyburn Police Department is accepting applications for the position of a full time Police Officer. The position is newly established as the city has experienced growth with recent annexation. Preference is given to lateral police officers and POST patrol certifiable applicants; however, all are encouraged to apply.
REQUIREMENTS
- At least 21 years of age
- * Minimum of a High School diploma or GED
- * Must be able to complete POST physical agility requirements
- * Must have a clean background and pass extensive background check
- * Pass employment-based polygraph, drug testing and psychological exam
- * Preferred: possess a minimum of a POST Basic Certification. However, we will hire entry level and send to the police academy.
OUR COMMUNITY: The City of Heyburn is located about 30 miles east of Twin Falls in the Magic Valley. As part of the Mini-Cassia area, Heyburn is a growing community next to Burley that serves over 3,000 permanent residents, not counting visitors and county residents that frequent the community. Two hospitals are within 15 minutes as well as numerous big box stores. Heyburn is close to several recreation type activities including motocross, golf, ATV riding, hiking, fishing, hunting, boating, horse events, camping and many more.

PATROL ASSIGNMENTS: In addition, as a collateral assignment, our police officers can hold various specialties including: Police Training Officer (Field Training), Breath Testing Specialist, Firearms Instructor, Electronic Control Devices / Taser Instructor, Impact Weapons Instructor, EVOC Instructor, ARCON Instructor, Other Instructor Positions (General & High Liability), Drug Recognition Expert, K9 handler (narcotics)
SCHEDULING: With two alternating patrol teams working rotating shifts: One team works 4 days on with 3 days off followed by 3 days on with 4 days off. The alternate team works 4 days off with 3 days on, 3 days off with four days on.
PATROL SHIFTS: Our officers work 12-hour shifts with the occasional 8-hour shift. Day (0600-1800) Swing (1500-0300) Graveyard (1800-0600)
WAGES: New wage scale effective October 1, 2024 - Entry level pay is $23.15 an hour and academy graduates/certified pay starts at $23.65 an hour. Our full wage scale is available on our website under the Recruitment page.
