The primary purpose of the Correctional Classification Coordinator position is to provide supervision, support, consultation, and direction to all offender classification and related activities throughout the state. This position is located in Prison Administration and works as a representative of the Manager of Classification and Tech Support.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Give direction to all statewide offender classification activities.
- Review, make recommendations, and/or approve as appropriate on classification cases referred to the Divisional level for final actions.
- Serves as a consultant, coordinator, and advisor to field and divisional staff.
- Assigned specialized projects/Division programs to coordinate (such as Interstate Compact, International Transfer, etc.).
- Responsible for classification audits and specialized divisional training for field personnel.
- Serves as a liaison between Prisons, other Department of Adult Corrections agencies, the Parole Commission, the AG's office, the Court system, etc.
- Responds to inquiries, internal and external to the Division, following governing policies and procedures.
- Respond to appeals, complaints, and other related correspondence from offenders and other persons interested in offender activities and circumstances, such as family etc.
- Serve on work groups and committees as assigned.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
- Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures of prisons, inmate classification process, and correctional programs.
- Demonstrated skills and experience to interpret policies, procedures, and laws, pertaining to the inmate classification system.
- Demonstrated skills and experience to synthesize data with acquired knowledge of complexion, programs and unique aspects of the various prison facilities, and the ability to make decisions essential to the inmate classification process.
- Demonstrated skills and experience to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a supervisory or consultative role in correctional diagnostic, classification, or program activities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
