Description Provides diversified administrative, clerical, and technical assistance within the correctional healthcare facility through electronic information systems management, delegated medical tasking, medical records processing, or materials inventory/procurement activities. These functions are performed under the direction of the Registered Nurse Administrator and are based upon the appropriate standards, policies/procedures and security considerations of the SFC Adult Detention Center.
  • Operates personal computers to enter and assimilate data, generate reports, draft routine correspondence, and develop special administrative analyses upon request.
  • Establishes and maintains security and access control for records. Assists in retrieving and maintaining a tracking system for all medical record charts located in the facility. Reviews medical records for completeness and to abstract and code clinical data, such as diseases, procedures and therapies, using standard classification systems. Assists with compliance review.
  • Completes forms and processes requests for medical information. Practices principles of patient and employee confidentiality. Performs clerical functions incidental to record maintenance activities. Remains current on all in-service/education/credentials/certification requirements for position, as appropriate.
Knowledge/ Skills:

  • Considerable knowledge of filing systems and records management.
  • Ability to operate various word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software programs.
  • Ability to read and write legibly in English and to type to the extent required to prepare orders, make reports and perform quality improvement activities.
  • Ability to think and act quickly; to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in a position performing duties specifically relevant to the essential job functions and knowledge and skills defined herein.
  • Must obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR and Defensive Driving certifications within three (3) months of hire.
Working Conditions:

Work is in an adult detention facility, primarily in an office environment with exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles and/or allergens. Work may involve high risk or potentially dangerous situations, exposure to hazardous materials, excessive noise, and hostile individuals. Work may require the use of protective clothing, equipment, devices or materials. May be subject to cuts, bruises, scrapes, burns, broken bones, insect and /or animal bites, germs, bacteria, viruses, environmental allergens, gases and fumes. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Clarity of vision at short distance is required. Subject to random pat down searches.

Conditions of Employment:

Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. Additionally, selected candidate must submit to and pass a county paid criminal background screening. Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Class D Driver’s License as incumbent shall be appointed to drive a County vehicle during the performance of his/her duties. Candidate must obtain and/or maintain all certifications required.
