Position Details
The Oregon Police Department is currently accepting applications to fill the vacancy of 1 patrol officer position. We will be accepting applications for lateral applicants.
To be considered a lateral applicant you must have already obtained a valid/current certification as a police officer from an accredited police academy.
The Oregon Police Department provides 24/7 coverage for the City of Oregon, Illinois. The City of Oregon is located along the scenic Rock River, situated between Rockford and Dixon Illinois. Oregon is also only 1hr and 45 minutes from the Chicago land area. The Oregon Police Department is committed to creating and maintaining a professional and community- oriented police Service.
Minimum Criteria for all candidates:
- Citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.
- Individuals must be at least 21 years old.
- Education – High School diploma or its equivalent.
- Must have no felony (or certain misdemeanor) convictions and be of good moral character.
- Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities of a police officer.
- Possession of an Illinois Driver's License and the ability to obtain a FOID card.
- Lateral Applicants: must meet the minimum requirements above must possess a valid and current police officer certification from an accredited police academy.

The application packet will include, but is not necessarily limited to, an application, waivers of liability, examination information, etc. The application, Authority to Release Information form, Acknowledgment/Consent Background and Credit History form, and Waiver/Release of Liability by Applicant for Public Employment form all must be completed in their entirety, duly executed, and submitted to the City of Oregon, in person mail or by email. Qualified applications are kept on file and applicants may be selected for further consideration at a future date.
Professional Examinations:
Lateral applicants that possess a valid police officer certification do not need to pass a written exam or the P.O.W.E.R tests. Once their application is turned in, further notice of the hiring process and interview will be given.
Interview:
Applicants selected for further consideration will be invited to a mandatory oral interview with the Chief of Police and his designee.
Qualified applicants may be subject to the following professional examinations to be considered for appointment:
- Physical Fitness Assessment (if applicable)
- Background Investigation
- Psychological Examination
- Medical Examination
