The Sheriff’s Office provides public safety at all times and therefore every position is deemed essential. All positions are in-person and not eligible for remote work. Every position is also subject to recall based on the needs of the Office to keep the community safe.

This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm, subject to change.

Responsible for assisting the Concealed Handgun/Extra Duty Supervisor in the scheduling and processing of concealed handgun permits. Communicates with the general public regarding the Concealed Handgun Program-related State statutes and other laws governing firearms.

  • Schedules and processes concealed handgun applications; checks for accuracy of required documentation, photographs and fingerprints applicants, contacts applicants for completion of application process as necessary, conducts criminal background checks on all applicants, and scans and files applicant records into the appropriate area. Responds to public inquiries by email, telephone and in person.
  • Communicates with the public, office staff, and other agencies regarding Colorado Revised Statutes and Federal Firearms laws pertaining to the Concealed Handgun Permit Program.
  • Receives incoming mail; sorts and routes mail to appropriate areas.
  • Assists with training new CHP/Extra Duty Technician and volunteers as needed.
  • Communicates with local businesses, individuals, educational institutions, municipalities, and government agencies. Answers all inquiries about the Extra Duty Program.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Some knowledge of law enforcement practices, investigative techniques, criminal law, and operations of outside agencies preferred.
  • Knowledge of office equipment, including computers, multi-line telephones, fax machines, scanners, and photocopiers.
  • Working knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Must possess strong communication skills and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to type 40 words per minute (WPM) and enter data accurately.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationship with the public and Sheriff's Office personnel.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, work under pressure at multiple tasks, and be well organized.
  • Demonstrates strong analytic and critical thinking skills.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • One year of experience in an office environment.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating multiple tasks.
Licenses/Certificates:
  • Must possess and maintain NCIC/CCIC certification, or ability to obtain within ninety days of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
  • Colorado Notary Public highly desired.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, and drug screen.
