The Louisiana Department of Public Safety (DPS) Physical Security section is committed to maintaining a secure environment across a wide range of state facilities, with a primary focus on protecting vital locations such as the State Police Barracks, State Police Headquarters, and other high-priority state buildings. In addition to these duties, DPS Physical Security officers are tasked with conducting regular security assessments and audits, identifying vulnerabilities, and implementing necessary improvements to enhance security measures. By maintaining a constant and vigilant presence, the Physical Security section ensures that critical operations continue without disruption, providing peace of mind for those who work within these facilities and the public they serve.
State Police Barracks Control Center
In 2003, the Louisiana Department of Public Safety (DPS) relocated its operations to a state-of-the-art prison facility situated within the expansive 1,760-acre State Police Training Facility near Zachary, LA. The facility is designed to accommodate up to 200 inmates and is equipped with advanced security technologies that enable comprehensive monitoring of inmate movement and activities throughout the entire 1,760 acres. In addition to overseeing inmate security, DPS Police is responsible for the overall protection of the facility, ensuring the safety of both those housed there and individuals who receive training at the facility. The section plays a vital role in maintaining a secure and controlled environment, allowing for effective law enforcement training and operations to continue without disruption.

No experience or training is required.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Learns about law enforcement activities designed to impact public safety services.
Learns about crash investigation, traffic and criminal enforcement, defensive tactics, firearms use, and constitutional law.
Learns about how to investigate complaints, write reports, and provide public safety service.
Learns about protocols for emergency response during large scale events, disasters, and other events with statewide impact.
Learns protocol for investigations of criminal complaints.
Trains for certification in emergency vehicle operation, firearms, defense tactics, crash investigation, officer survival, de-escalation, leadership, enforcement of traffic and criminal laws, as well as other pertinent training courses.
Completes DPS Police specific training provided by the Louisiana State Police Training Academy or DPS Police Instructors.
Position-Specific DetailsThis vacancy is located in the Physical Security Section in the Department of Public Safety and Corrections/Office of State Police located in East Baton Rouge Parish. This posting may be used to fill a probational appointment, job appointment, or promotional opportunity.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a DPS Police Cadet, Officer, Sr. Officer, or Corporal, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
This position has a biweekly Special Entrance Rate (SER) as follows:
DPS Police Cadet (PS-108)—$1,616.00
DPS Police Officer (PS-110)—$1,785.60
DPS Police Sr. Officer (PS-111)—$1,910.40
DPS Police Corporal (PS-112)—$2,044.00
Applicants must have a Civil Service test score for 2100–PSE (Protective Services Exam) in order to be considered for this vacancy. If you do not have a score prior to applying to this posting, it may result in your application not being considered.
Applicants who are POST-certified are exempt from taking the 2100–PSE (Protective Services Exam) test in accordance to Civil Service Rule 22.8(e). The applicant’s POST certification shall not be under suspension or pending a revocation hearing.
