Description

This is a non-sworn, civilian position responsible analytical work requiring a high level of confidentiality in the review, extraction, analysis, and compilation of data. Researches, compiles, and presents information to develop investigative leads and identify functional patterns to support law enforcement investigations.

Work is primarily intellectual and analytical in nature, rather than manual or routine, and variable in nature. Cannot be standardized within specific timeframes. Duties involve the use of various analytical techniques, including the review of investigative reports, graphic data presentation, chronological event charting, and the consolidation of intelligence data from external agencies.

This position operates under the general supervision of a Police Commander or designee, who monitors progress, provides support, and evaluates completed work based on the quality and utility of the results.

Reviews, extracts, and analyzes data from reports and other sources; compiles intelligence in a standardized local format to support investigative and operational decisions.

Collects, validates, and coordinates intelligence; prioritizes and analyzes data to determine accuracy and relevance.

Prepares analytical reports, summaries, and assessments for internal and external stakeholders.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations. Proficient in the use of personal computers and related software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and mapping software. Experience with CJIS, OSSI, EDEN, FCIC, NCIC, ALPR software, and public databases.

Skilled in analyzing and categorizing data, identifying patterns, and applying statistical research techniques. Ability to interpret intelligence data, conduct analytical investigations, and evaluate information for validity and reliability.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of presenting findings clearly and concisely. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to make discretionary decisions pertaining to confidential crime/intelligence matters. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sound judgment. High level of initiative, self-motivation, and strong interpersonal skills.

Education & Experience Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or closely related field is required, with a minimum of one (1) year experience as an Intelligence Analyst or possession of an Intelligence Analyst Certification. Relevant training and/or experience may be considered as a substitute for the specified educational requirements. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and satisfactory driving history throughout employment.

Applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to a polygraph examination and an extensive background screening.

The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to see in dimmed lighting and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is quiet to moderately loud. Sometimes work is stressful when working under stringent time constraints. Work is performed in a temperature controlled modern office setting, mostly from a seated position at a modular workstation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, and to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
