Job Description

The Lincoln Police Department is accepting applications for both entry-level and certified police officers. All officers and their dependents are entitled to a free education at any state of Nebraska university, college or community college and six weeks of paid parental leave!

We know that diversity makes us better, so we're committed to building a department that reflects the community we serve. We encourage people from all backgrounds to apply. We can and will teach you skills, so our biggest considerations in the hiring process are character and talent. We've found the things that make a great Lincoln Police Officer are: integrity, being a team player, drive, humility, effective intelligence, emotional strength, adaptability, resiliency and curiosity.

As a Lincoln Police Officer, you will be exposed to a wide variety of experiences and have countless opportunities for professional growth. Unlike most departments our size, we subscribe to a generalist policing philosophy. This means we give our officers the training and responsibility to fully investigate the cases they're dispatched to rather than handing most of them off to an investigative unit. Policing that way adds an extra challenge to the job, but it also builds well-rounded officers and allows you to hone your skills on patrol so you're ready to hit the ground running when opportunities for advancement come along.

Lincoln Police Officers work in cooperation with the community to prevent crime and proactively address problems before bad things happen. They enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, excellent pay and a defined benefit pension in return. Currently certified officers may be eligible for additional incentives.

If you're ready to turn your passion and commitment into action, it's time to answer the call, accept the challenge and find your place at the Lincoln Police Department.

Additional Information

We are hiring both police trainees and lateral transfers. Lateral transfers have the ability to start higher in the pay scale based on experience and the potential to purchase credit for up to 10 years into our pension system.

A 3% raise will go into effect in September 2024.
