***Please note: This is a volunteer position with no compensation***
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO) Volunteer Program is composed of a collective citizens group with a true and common desire to partner with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office by volunteering their services while learning more about the internal workings of the law enforcement community. The use of citizen volunteers assists the Sheriff's Office in meeting these demands and, as the demand continues to grow, so will the need for active citizen participation.Volunteers will be utilized in non-law enforcement support duties. Common duties performed by the volunteers may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist the Communications Center and/or SO front office.
Assist in Intake and Release
Provide support for Inmate Programs, including religious services.
Other Duties based on operational needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Must be a law-abiding citizen with good intent.
Must be at least 18 years of age, 21 for some positions.
Must be willing to commit at least 80 volunteer hours annually.
Licenses/Certificates
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Must pass background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, hearing and vision test, and truth verification examination.
Duties are performed primarily on county roads, community events, and county buildings. Duties may require driving a marked vehicle and participating in indoor/outdoor activities with members of the public. Work may often involve evening and/or weekend functions.
