GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Corrections, State Penitentiary Rawlins, is seeking a Deputy Warden. This position is responsible for the administration, supervision, coordination, and monitoring of all programming staff assigned to the facility. Responsible for all programming phases, including staff and inmate orientation, direction, training, supervision, performance evaluations, and constant monitoring of the facility's programming plan. Manages the development of inmate programming and collaborates with staff regarding inmate classification/reclassification, programs, job assignments, program reviews, and the handling of minor and general disciplinary reports and grievances. The Deputy Warden is an at-will employee and serves at the discretion of the Director of Corrections. Housing is provided for this position.

  • Responsible for managing the administration, supervision, coordination, and monitoring of the activities of the team(s) and/or program(s), which include but are not limited to:
  • Review Investigation Teams
  • Community-Based Corrections Programs
  • Education Programs
  • Medical and Dietary Departments
  • Staff Training
  • Quality Assurance Team
  • Inmate Work Assignments
  • Security Functions,
  • Restricted Housing program
  • Inmate On-The-Job Training Program
  • Inmate Recreation Program and others.
  • Manages the development of various related tasks involving receiving offenders, maintaining their needs and services, and designing their future activities toward their rehabilitation during incarceration.
  • Fosters good communications and working relationships with all institutional department heads and other Wyoming DOC staff.
  • Ensures Operations meet all standards required by Wyoming DOC policy, state and federal laws, and other regulations that may apply.
PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of high-level supervisory experience in a correctional setting, including working as an Associate Warden or higher.

  • Ability to identify and correct inappropriate inmate behavior

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)

Experience:

3-5 years of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Captain or Program Manager

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: All candidates must have/or be eligible to obtain Certified Correctional Executive Certification within eighteen (18) months of employment.


OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

6-8 years of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Captain or Program Manager

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

All candidates must have/or be eligible to obtain Certified Correctional Executive Certification within eighteen (18) months of employment.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Lifting/grasping up to 20 pounds without assistance on an occasional to regular basis
  • Walking on cement floors on an occasional to regular basis
  • Walking up and down stairs on an occasional basis
  • Stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching on an occasional basis
  • Reaching on a regular basis
  • Typing/Repetitive motion on a frequent basis
  • Talking/hearing on a frequent basis
  • Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
  • Occasional travel
