$56,925 - 62,618 without degree/ $58,632 (AS) / $60,341 (BS) / $62,048 (MA) annual Academy Graduate:
$59,771 (Prestigeous JP Strom Award Recipient will receive 5% over starting 56,925 and with a BA/BS = $63,187 and may receive new take-home patrol vehicle) annual
Lateral Transfer: (Depending on years of experience)
$56,925 - $76,818 annual
Top Pay:
$72,500 - $76,818 (Without Rank) annual

Breakdown:

Deputy Sheriff: Less than 2 Years: $56,925 - $62,618 (No Higher Education) AS=3%/BS=6%/MA=9%/JP=5%

Deputy First Class I:  2-4 Years: $60,638 - $66,413 (No Higher Education) Same as above for educational incentives

Deputy First Class II: 4-6 Years: $62,370 - $68,145 (No Higher Educations) Same as above for educational incentives

Lance Corporal: 6-8 Years: $68,110 - $74,003 (Educational Incentives cease)

Senior Deputy: 8 - 10 Years: $70,387 - $76,280

Master Deputy: 10 + Years: $72,500 - $76,818

Corporal (Supervisor): Not Elgible for Lateral Transfer, but elgible for promotional testing within 1 year or end of probational period:

$70,815 - 76,930 Cpl. with Less than 5 Years/ $73,980 - 90,195 Cpl. with more than 5 years of rank or 8 years total LE experience.

Sergeant (Supervisor): Not Elgible for Lateral Transfer, elgible after promotional testing and obtaining rank of Corporal

$77,806 - $83,581 Sgt. with Less than 5 Years/  $84,736 - $90,511 Sgt. with more than 5 years of rank or 10 years total LE experience.

 

 

Job Description

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office is looking to hire and retain dynamic people interested in the profession and career of law enforcement. We are seeking individuals wanting to serve communities with outstanding moral virtue and integrity.

Geography & Location

Lancaster County is part of the Charlotte MSA or metropolitan area with the northern border touching Mecklenburg County and the the panhandle (Indian Land & Van Wyck) touching York County, SC & Union County, NC respectively. Lancaster County has seven neighboring counties, two previously mentioned are set in North Carolina. To the East is Chesterfield County with the West having Chester County as a border. The southern border rests against Kershaw County and a sliver sits against Fairfield County, SC. 

Depending on where you are looking to reside and work, Lancaster County is as diverse as it comes with the three distinctly different Districts. The northern District is a suburb and overflow of South Charlotte and borders the bedroom community of Fort Mill, SC which have routinely had the highest rated schools in the State of SC. The northern area of the county is the unincorporated and is referred to by locals as Indian Land. Partnered together with the incorporated Town of Van Wyck the panhandle consists of Indian Land and Van Wyck which is also near the City of Rock Hill, SC, Marvin and Waxhaw, NC. This area is growing exponentially and the economic growth has led to Lancaster County being in the top of county growths in the State of South Carolina. For 2024-2025 Lancaster County is projected to grow as the number one county in the state. The middle of the county is home the city of Lancaster and the communities of Buford and Shiloh and Unity. This is also a small urban and rural area respectively. The southern part of the county is vast and has the towns of Heath Springs and Kershaw with one of the countries oldest and most successful gold mines along with a fish camp.
