GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Performs work in developing, organizing and implementing programs for the Guilford County Sheriff s Department to assist the department and the community in achieving the goals of the mission statement.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The employee shall organize and implement community based programs working in conjunction with private industry, public agencies and individuals in solving community based problems working as a liaison between the parties involved and the Guilford County Sheriff s Department. The employee will work as the liaison between the parties needing assistance and the areas of the Sheriff s Department that should be involved in the project. Their actions will not be constrained to one particular section of the department but will include any and all areas where the needs require department involvement with other agencies not related to the official responsibilities such as the enforcement of law, keeping the peace or any action mandated by law. The employee will assist these agencies at the direction of the Sheriff to assist in educating, serving and meeting needs which are for the benefit of the community and will foster better working relations and develop more efficient use of department manpower and resources. The employee should be comfortable in dealing with the diversity of the community and dedicated to providing services to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Guilford County. The employee should be a self-starter, well organized and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Problem solving skills are needed to accomplish the goals of the department. The ability to think outside the box to find solutions is a requirement. This person will act as a resource for the department and the agencies in meeting the goals established by the Sheriff s Department. In addition, the employee will be responsible for the development and implementation of video programs prepared by the Sheriff s Department for training and public education. The employee will need to be familiar with filming, editing and producing these videos as needed. The equipment is in-house and the employee will be responsible for its care and maintenance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Tasks

PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT

- Organize and implement community based Programs approved by the Sheriff for the good of the community.
- Act as liaison by serving as a department representative for the Sheriff s Department with public, private and individuals as directed by the Sheriff
- Form partnerships with public and private groups to improve community relations and identify needs within the community.
- Perform speeches, seminars and training videos to educate the public concerning the workings of the Guilford County Sheriff s Department.
- Organize, develop and coordinate with training, videos to provide in-service training for the department, often under time pressure.
- Produce, edit and direct the educational programs done by the department for local media.

RECRUITMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of the Guilford County Sheriff's Department, its programs and responsibilities.
- Ability to develop, organize and implement programs while working with a diversified group of people.
- Ability to plan and work independently.
- Ability to write and speak effectively.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate camera and edit equipment provided by the department to produce videos used for media and training.
- Ability to operate in both IBM and Macintosh computer format.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in English, Public Information/Communications, Journalism or other job-related degree or at least two years experience working in a job-related field.

Special Conditions of Employment

Valid North Carolina driver's license required.
