Physician 3 -Gender Affirming Medical Specialist

Annual Salary Range:  $198,648 - $267,228

The Department of Corrections Health Services Division is seeking a highly motivated and professional canidate to take on the newly established role of Gender Affirming Medical Specialist (Physician 3).  The work performed will be done at various correctional facilities and will utilize telehealth, and new telecommunication and digital communication technology.

The General Affirming Medical Specialist (Physician 3) is under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer.  Analyzes, directs, and coordinates medical care provided to transgender and gender diverse incarcerated individuals statewide, both in person and through telehealth modality.  Collaboratively develops and coordinates the Gender Affirming Care Program with the Gender Affirming Program Coordinator, Gender Affirming Patient Navigators, and the Unified Leadership Team including Health Services Executives.  Collaboratively implements protocols using a systems approach for the provision of health care related to gender dysphoria and transgender individuals maintains a positive professional relationship with individuals and co-workers and uses positive problem-solving skills.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Direct patient care of all transgender individuals statewide in DOC.
• Leadership Representation
• Participate in the Trnasgender Care Review Committee
• Consultation and training
• Quality improvement activities

Qualification-Required:

• Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Washington State.
• Unrestricted DEA license with waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder
• Physicians without an active buprenorphine waiver will be considered however continued employment will be contingent upon receipt of waiver within 60 days of hiring date.
• American Heart Association Basice Life Support (BLS)
• Experience supervising and/or directing health care delivery operations.
• Significant experience (at least 1 year) in providing health care for transgender individuals.

Please note:  Eligibility for American Board certification is required.  Certification must be obtained within the six (6) month probationary period as a condition of continued employment.
