As a Metal Working Occupations Teacher, you will supervise and instruct inmates in the welding trade at SCI Fayette. You will conduct classroom and on-the-job training that includes the standard practices, methods, and procedures of the welding trade. You will also oversee and direct inmate work crews completing welding work orders. This role requires effective communication and the ability to determine appropriate instruction methods based on inmate ability, as well as a genuine desire to help inmates learn the standard principles of the welding trade. In addition, you will assign daily schedules, inventory materials and tools, inspect completed work, and exercise care, custody, and control over inmates at all times.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in Welding; or
  • If there is no approved apprenticeship period for Welding, education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in Welding.
  • Please Note: The specified parenthetical for this posting is Welding. The specific apprenticeship period for this parenthetical is 3 years.
Special Requirements:
  • Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for Welding; or
  • Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for Welding; or
  • Eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for the Welding.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
