Oversees the Law Enforcement Accreditation Process for the Police Department; department liaison with the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA); assists staff in resolving quality assurance and accreditation non-compliance issues and findings; monitors measures designed to meet Commission Standards; completes, updates, and submits required reports, documents and forms pursuant to applicable accreditation regulations and in accordance with department policy/procedure; maintains standards files for primary and secondary proofs of compliance; draft, update and maintain department policies; prepare the department for accreditation/re-accreditation recognitions. Work is performed under the general direction of the Police Chief.

- Responsible for identifying, managing and applying for grant opportunities to support departmental programs and initiatives.
- Administers the CFA accreditation process that ensures compliance with standards developed by the state.
- Continually monitors, edits, maintains, develops and distributes department policies, procedures and forms to ensure compliance with State, Federal and City laws and rules, and Accreditation Standards.
- Advises Command staff of weaknesses in directives and procedures and recommends changes to protect agency from liability.
- Analyzes, evaluates and maintains documentation and to show proof of compliance with Accreditation standards.
- Maintains current information on accreditation standards, and the interpretation and application of accreditation standards through active participation with appropriate accreditation commissions and professional associations.
- Serves as Department liaison with other agencies concerning policies, officer safety issues, best practices, training, accreditation, etc. Participates on committees for Background Investigations and Accreditation.
- Represents the department in conjunction with the Chief of Police or designee at various conferences for accreditation award recognition and any appropriate training.
- Monitors and maintains accurate, up-to-date records, files, and other police record systems through timely reporting (monthly, quarterly, annually). Advises command staff with regards to maintaining accreditation and other record keeping standards.
- Assists in developing and implementing departmental program goals and objectives. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
- Plans and monitors accreditation on-site assessments and maintains appropriate records. Takes the lead role while preparing for and during Department prepared mock and on-site assessments.
- Ensures staff inspections are completed as prescribed by the Department and accreditation standards.
- Maintains current accreditation software database for accreditation program tracking.
- Reviews a wide variety of complex and technical issues concerning law enforcement standards and the accreditation process.
- Responds to request for information from other entities and the public.
- Maintains current knowledge of State/Federal Statutes and regulations.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of CALEA and/or CFA police accreditation processes and standards.
- Knowledge of police practices and management of governmental operations and activities, including the legal and risk environment associated with such work.
- Ability to write and edit policies, procedures, etc.
- Knowledge of police department command structure, business operations, and the need for effective communication and control processes that ensure that all employees understand the standards that are being applied to their work.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the department and the City, as well as outside agencies that have direct or indirect impact on the accreditation process.
- Skill in identifying improvement opportunities, engaging personnel in effecting such processes, and following through to completion.
- Skill in integrating police accreditation processes and standards into police department activity and ensuring compliance with same.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience which would provide required knowledge, skills, and abilities are qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
High school diploma or the equivalent; 3 years of experience with a criminal justice agency with a preference for law enforcement; experience in administration, management or as an accreditation manager or team member with CFA or CALEA.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, business, public administration or a related field; 5 years of experience with a criminal justice agency with a preference for law enforcement experience; 1 year of experience in administration management or as an accreditation manager or team member with CFA or CALEA.
