  1. Must be a current BSO employee who has successfully completed their probationary period by the listed closing date.
  2. Three (3) years previous experience in a supply or inventory warehouse to include experience in a lead worker or supervisory capacity.
  3. Experience in an adult detention facility that includes experience in the inmate property function preferred.
Under administrative direction, the purpose of this position is to supervise personnel engaged in the receipt, processing, storage, and return handling of inmate property at an assigned detention facility of the Broward Sheriff's Office. Employees in this classification are responsible for supervising personnel in procedures and directives, and developing scheduling, and monitoring activities during assigned shift. Performs related work as directed.

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

Prepares staffing schedules, and approves/disapproves leave time; functions on rotating call for coordinating shift coverage in critical or shortage circumstances.

Performs personnel management functions for shift under charge, i.e., counseling, discipline, payroll preparation, performance evaluations, conducting staff meetings.

Monitors various logs relevant to the inmate property functions, i.e., lockdown property, tote shelf.

Performs pouch audits for the purpose of verifying valuables are properly checked in; notifies chain of command of missing items, i.e., keys, scissors, tools.

Prepares event reports and claims for missing or damaged property.

Supervises mandatory training of new personnel; supervises daily activities of work performed.

Responds to inmate grievances; provides resolution or directs such to appropriate authority; appears in court for subpoenas as needed.

Oversees and participates in various administrative support duties, i.e., filing documentation, responding to telephone inquiries, entering data on computer system, responding to correspondence, sending memoranda.

Provides training and direction to personnel under charge in policies and procedures; informs such of changes in policy and procedure, or when new directives are issued.

Performs packaging of evidence/property according to State Statutes and department procedures.

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Performs related duties as directed.

Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Some tasks are performed in a warehouse environment in a designated detention facility where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with routine conditions in a detention facilities warehouse environment. Some tasks include working around moving parts, carts, and materials handling where physical risks are predictable and/or controllable by observance of standard safety precautions.
