Description
Enforces applicable City ordinances and State laws governing the licensing, adoption, impounding, and euthanasia of animals. Collects and transports animals to the animal shelter. Employee must wear required uniform and will be required to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays. This is a full time position

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
:
High School Diploma or GED and any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position.
LICENSING & TRAINING
:
Must possess a valid state driver's license prior to employment.
*Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:

Patrols the City to investigate, locate, capture, and impound domestic animals.
Responds to calls from the public concerning stray, nuisance, dangerous, injured, or dead domestic animals.
Makes investigation reports.
May make reports of animal bites and prepares reports for the appropriate health official.
Quarantines animals when necessary.
Explains animal control ordinances and policies to the public and concerned parties.
May clean the animal shelter, as needed.
Maintains records of animal impounding.
Investigates complaints and cases of improper animal treatment.
Euthanize animals in the prescribed manner, according to appropriate laws.
Arranges for adoption of animals.
May issue citations and document cases for prosecution of animal abuse and noncompliance.
Testifies in court.
Operates a vehicle and uses a variety of animal control equipment.
Provides shelter support in answering telephone call, booking and redeeming animals, handling animal adoptions and vaccinating animals coming into the shelter.
Respond to special emergency calls during nights and weekends.
Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
Complies with and promotes safe practices in agreement with the safety rules and procedures set forth in the Loss Control Program.
Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Department rules and procedures; statutes and ordinances relating to the assignment.

The employee is required to work flexible shifts that include evenings, weekends and holidays. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderate to loud when in the field.
