The Germantown Police Department is accepting applications for lateral transfers from experienced law enforcement officers with a minimum of two (2) years continuous full-time experience. 

We are a rapidly growing department with room for movement within the department. We have a good working relationship with our surrounding agencies. We were approved to hire four additional officer through a referendum for 2025. We have also had a few retirements, that make up seven immediate vacancies. Our officers work a 4-2 rotation with 8.5-hour shifts and have access to an onsite fitness room, with the ability to work out on duty during the last half-hour of a shift. Additionally, we are in the early stages of planning a new police facility to better serve our community and department.

Training & Professional Development

The Germantown Police Department is committed to frequent specialized and in-house training. Some of the instructor certifications are: 

  • Defensive Tactics (DAAT)
  • Firearms
  • Emergency Vehicle Operation (EVOC)
  • Vehicle Contacts
  • Tactical Response
  • Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT)

Additionally, we are integrating Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu into our Defensive Tactics training to enhance officer preparedness and safety.

Divisions & Leadership

  • Command Staff: Chief, 1 Captain, 3 Lieutenants, and 6 Sergeants (2 per shift)
  • Detective Bureau: 3 Detectives led by a Lieutenant
  • Crime Prevention Officer: Organizes community events and assists with investigations
  • Metro Drug Unit Investigator: One officer assigned to Washington County Metro Drug Unit
  • K9 Unit: Two K9 officers assigned to first and second shift, One Therapy dog assigned to our SRO
  • School Resource Officers: Assigned to both the Middle and High Schools

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of continuous law enforcement experience
  • 21 Years of Age
  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position
  • Ability to possess a firearm
  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Driver’s license Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • 60 college credits/Associate’s Degree
