Under limited supervision of the Vice President of Finance, the Director of Public Safety and Security is responsible for coordinating and administering a comprehensive school safety and security program and operates as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the SCGSAH campus. The job duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and communicating policies and procedures for school safety and campus security.
- Maintains and amends, as necessary, the School Emergency Plan and Procedures Manual.
- Supervises and schedules law enforcement and security personnel to provide complete and consistent protection for the campus, students, employees, and guests.
- Directs patrols of the SCGSAH campus.
- Serves as standing member of the School Discipline Committee for students.
- Responds to and investigates safety and security concerns to make law enforcement decisions relative to potential charging documents.
- In conjunction with the Director of Facilities, assists with the inspections and maintenance of the school’s life-safety (fire), and security systems.
- In conjunction with health services, assists with the design and implementation of in-house continuing education programs for fire and life safety, hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, and other safety topics.
- Conducts inspections of the school’s physical plant to detect safety hazards in buildings, machinery, and equipment.
- Conducts fire, evacuation, and lockdown drills.
- Manages other processes to include all fleet services, third party bus transportation services, door locks, and access systems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency and certification by the Department of Public Safety in accordance with Section 23-6-430 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.
Additional Functional Duties:
- Develop an officer training program to include both Security Specialists and Police Officers' annual training.
- Work closely with the Director of Information Technology to research and implement an updated access system for the entire campus.
- Partner with other law enforcement agencies to conduct drills and safety inspections for the campus.
- Position may require employee to work overtime, weekends, and on-call.

- Associate degree or bachelor's degree, with law enforcement experience and certification by the Department of Public Safety in accordance with Section 23-6-430 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.
- Must possess a current SC Driver's License.
