Description Under general direction, oversees the operation of the Iowa Medical and Classification Center garden, planting, care, harvesting and spraying of the garden.
Direct offender work crews in the garden area as needed.
Will be required to have a fruit and vegetables pesticides license.
Help maintain the IMCC equipment in proper operating condition to provide safe equipment for everyone concerned.
Work with Dietary to plant and deliver produce as needed.
Will also be responsible for the flower gardens at the entrance to the facility.
Complete all necessary record keeping as instructed.

Will perform other general repair tasks as assigned by the Plant Operations Manager; will assist other Correctional Trades Leaders, electricians, plumbers, carpenter and painter in completing assigned tasks
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
  1. Four years of full-time work experience in one or more of the recognized building (e.g., carpentry, painting, plumbing/pipefitting, electrical and masonry) and mechanical/repair (e.g., air conditioning/ heating, auto mechanics, upholstery and welding) trades.
  2. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in a recognized building and mechanical trade for each year of the required experience.
  3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Furniture Upholsterer, Mason, Maintenance Repairer, Carpenter 1 or 2, Painter 1 or 2, Plumber 1 or 2, or Welder.

Within a period of time, as determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a license to perform electrical work in accordance with Chapter 103, Iowa Code

Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required commercial driver's license and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.
