Description The Dane County Sheriff's Office currently has a current vacancy for an LTE Weapons Screening Attendant.

Limited Term Employees (LTEs) are limited to working 1,200 hours per year and are not guaranteed any specific hours per week.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, performs weapons screening functions at the main entrance to the Dane County Courthouse during designated hours to maintain a safe environment in which to work and conduct government activities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Operates weapon screening equipment at stations in the Dane County Courthouse. Provides information to the general public and employees. Investigates and reports on disturbances, fire and safety hazards and suspicious persons and activities to proper authorities. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience:

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two (2) years of consistent work experience, preferably in a security related area.

Special Requirements:

Must have no criminal convictions; a background investigation, including employment history, is part of the final selection process. Availability to work overtime is required. Availability to work as required occasionally during nights, weekends, and during special events. Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent.

Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. However, Dane County may disqualify an applicant if the position's responsibilities are substantially related to the applicant's criminal history (e.g., the nature of the crime and its relationship to the position, whether hiring, transferring or promoting an applicant would pose an unreasonable risk to the business, its employees, customers and vendors, etc.) Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.

For Bilingual Positions:

    1. Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Hmong, etc.).
    2. Applicants being considered for bilingual positions will be tested during the recruitment process prior to employment. This will primarily consist of passing an oral language proficiency assessment from English to foreign language and foreign language to English, but may require additional language testing, such as written translation, if it is an essential function of the job.

*If applicable, individuals may confirm with the Employee Relations Division whether results of bilingual language certifications/ examinations they currently hold qualify them for the position’s bilingual designation.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:

Professional office work environment. Work involves walking, sitting, standing, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, and reaching within normal ranges. Ability to lift and move a variety of work-related materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity using fine and gross motor skills. Ability to view a computer monitor/screen for long periods. Ability to speak and be heard by others. Ability to see and hear within normal ranges with or without corrective devices.

Knowledge of standard security practices and techniques. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the general public, employees and officials. Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to write clearly and to take prompt and decisive action in emergency situations. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.
