This position is located at Hyde Correctional Institution in Hyde County, an adult minimum, male prison facility. This position will work in the Administrative Section of the facility. This position will provide office management services for the Warden. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining an effective filing and office records system; document processing, correspondence, telephone and electronic communication, appointment scheduling, coordination of meetings and mail processing. Receive and direct telephone inquiries and visitors to the Warden's office. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Maintain a professional demeanor with all criminal justice agencies, co-workers and the general public. Proficient in computer skills are a must. Demonstrate a good working knowledge of basic office machines. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills. Able to prioritize tasks and review the same to ensure accuracy and completeness. Able to maintain strict confidentiality as required in position of secretary to the Warden. Successful applicant must have work experience with word, excel, and other office software systems. Ability to take dictation and minutes and transcribe the same accurately.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC) is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. The Division of Institutions is one of the divisions in DAC and employs a variety of staff, operates 56 institutions and is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 30,000 incarcerated individuals across North Carolina. Our division categorizes the institutions into 3 custody levels, which include minimum, medium, and close. The Division of Institutions has a duty to provide a secure and safe environment along with the proper care and supervision for every individual, in our custody.
