Job Description:

The City of Black Diamond is seeking qualified Lateral or Experienced Police Officers to join our growing department. This position involves a wide range of general duty police work, including the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, prevention and investigation of crimes, and maintenance of public order. Officers are expected to serve with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to excellence in a community-oriented environment.

This is a civil service position and is represented by the Black Diamond Police Officers Association and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Proactively patrol the City of Black Diamond to deter criminal activity and provide a visible police presence.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including traffic accidents, criminal complaints, and disturbances.
• Enforce local, state, and federal laws, as well as city ordinances and departmental policies.
• Conduct investigations of criminal activities including securing crime scenes, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and arresting suspects.
• Write accurate and comprehensive reports and provide testimony in court as necessary.
• Conduct traffic enforcement, issue citations, and investigate motor vehicle collisions under various traffic and weather conditions.
• Physically direct traffic and manage public events when needed.
• Intervene in domestic disputes and other volatile situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques and ensuring the safety of all parties.
• Operate a patrol vehicle under normal and adverse conditions.
• Train and safely use firearms and other departmental equipment.
• Participate in the department’s Marine Patrol Unit, conducting water safety patrols and enforcing boating laws and regulations on Lake Sawyer, including vessel inspections and emergency response on the water.
• Take direction from police supervisors and participate in department training and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be a certified peace officer in the State of Washington, having successfully completed the Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) or be eligible for BLEA equivalency.
• Must be currently employed as a peace officer or have left in good standing, with no pending decertification.
• Must be 21 years of age at time of application and a U.S. Citizen.
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
• Must meet the physical, medical, and background standards set by the City.
