Detention Control Room Operator

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks which are also performed but are incidental to the primary functions. • Operates control panels and equipment in detention control rooms;
• Coordinates entry and exit into multiple secured areas in normal and emergency conditions;
• Answers telephones and directs calls;
• Monitors audio and video surveillance equipment associated with detention security;
• Answers intercom calls;
• Logs visitors into and out of the facility;
• Monitors and reports inmate behavior which includes foul or profane language and obscene gestures;
• Maintains logs of daily operations;
• Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
• Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
• Ability to type accurately.
• Ability to listen.
• Stand for long periods of time.

Work shift work.

KNOWLEDGE OF: Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office policies and procedures.

ENVIRONMENT: Indoors in heavily secured areas.

ABILITY TO: Speak clearly and distinctly in well modulated pleasant voice using correct grammar and choice of words; react calmly during emergency situations and utilize common sense and interpersonal skills when dealing with excited persons; write detailed and legible reports.

SKILLS: Operate a computer; operate a multi-line telephone, deal effectively with the public.

LICENSE: Applicant must have a valid Florida Driver's License at the date of hire and maintain said license while employed in this position.
