The Town of Herndon has an immediate need for a Certified Sworn Police Officer in the Herndon Police Department. This department maintains a national accreditation and utilizes community policing to preserve public peace and to protect lives, property, and rights of the town’s citizens. As a Police Officer, you will be assigned to patrol operations to perform field duties that include enforcement of laws, response to calls for service and investigation of crime and complaints.
In this position, you will support the Town of Herndon by:
• Patrolling areas of the town to prevent and discover the commission of crime, apprehend criminals and offenders, and enforce traffic laws.
• Responding to calls for service and complaints from citizens involving accidents, misdemeanors, and felonies.
• Conducting accident and criminal investigations, gathering evidence, interviewing suspects and witnesses, writing reports, making arrests as required, rendering credible information as witness in court and other related police duties.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
• Experience as a Certified Sworn Police Officer.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Be of strong character and reputation with the ability to pass an extensive background investigation.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish is desired.
• Must be willing to sign a condition of employment agreement which precludes smoking on or off duty.

Hours:
• Varies, 80 hours per two week pay period.

Due to the nature of a government providing services to the public all duties of this position are required to be fulfilled at the designated worksite in the town. No remote work is available.
