Description

Under general direction, supervises, oversees, and maintains the staffing levels of the detention facility at an adequate, safe and secure staffing level; assists the line supervisor with sound decisions affecting the operation of the facility; and performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
  • Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Business Administration, or related field and five years of demonstrated detention/corrections or law enforcement experience, two years of which are in a supervisory capacity that includes demonstrated experience and responsibility in staff supervision, personnel matters, court related issues, security, prisoner conflict resolution, and training; preferably in an adult detention facility OR an equivalent combination of education and experience,
Required Licenses or Certifications:
  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license or ability to obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • Detention/Corrections Certification in the State of New Mexico.
  • Firearms Certification (handgun and rifle) obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) training for the Critical Incident Unit within one year.
  • Other licenses and/or certifications may be required within a specified time period after hire.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license
  • Must pass a background investigation to include criminal history, employment references, credit history, verification of US citizenship, and pre-employment interview in accordance with Federal Performance-Based Detention Standards (FPBDS) A.9.3.a through e; and Sandoval County Detention Center Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Part 1/C108, Chapter: Personnel, Subject: Employment Process / Background Investigations, PROCEDURES Pre-Employment, 2.   • Must pass a Defensive Tactics Class

This position is subject to bi-annual background checks in accordance with Sandoval County Detention Center Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Part 1/C108, Chapter: Personnel, Subject: Employment Process / Background Investigations, PROCEDURES, Post-Employment, 4.; and FPBDS A.9.6 (periodic).
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; assigns tasks and coordinates schedules, projects, and programs; provides constructive feedback; reviews and evaluates work and makes effective suggestions and recommendations.
  • Coaches, trains and motivates staff; coordinates and/or provides staff training; and manages employee relations; provides general advice and counsel to staff; assists with and/or develops developmental work plans for staff; and recommends corrective actions, discipline and termination procedures as appropriate/necessary.
  • Manages and oversees the interview process for all qualified applicants; reviews all applications submitted to the Sandoval County Detention Center; verifies that minimum qualifications are met; schedules interviews; requests and reviews all NCIC submissions for potential applicants; and prepares qualified applications for review by administration with recommendation for hire.
  • Performs as a team member on the facility's Critical Incident Unit; rotates with other administrative members for the "on-call" status schedule; and plans and performs supervisory and related detention duties as assigned or directed.
  • Works from prescribed policies and procedures, training and background, to ensure the proper maintenance of all files and records; prepares necessary personnel reports on new and experienced personnel, including any disciplinary actions or counseling as well as preliminary investigations.
  • Trains and instructs subordinates related to standards of performance, discipline, safety, and methods with respect to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the facility.
  • Conducts thorough and comprehensive Use of Force investigations. Ensure all use of force reports, witnesses written statements and medical reports are reviewed and submitted with the Use of Force packet. Submits a detailed report on the facts of the force used and that each case is in compliance or non-compliance with S.O.P.P.
  • Responsible for Monthly Key and Tool Inventory.
  • Responsible for conducting and reviewing the Monthly Perpetual Audits.
  • Responsible for Monthly inspections of the kitchen services and medical services.
  • Responsible for Quarterly and Annual review of the Post Orders and Policies and Procedures.
