Salary:

• Starting Salary: $83,076 (Based on Experience)

  Top Base Pay: $123,625 (Reached in as Little as 3 Years)

  Certified Officers Starting: $83,076 and up to $110,937 (Based on experience)

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be 21 years old by date of written exam; maximum age of under 35 years unless the age limit is reached after being placed on Eligibility list (unless otherwise exempt by Statute).
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess an associate degree. In lieu of an associate degree, you must have one of the following:
1. 60 semester hours of credit toward a bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
2. Have served for 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and not have been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable.
3. Have served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable.
• Vision correctable to 20/20 in both eyes.
• Pass a comprehensive pre-employment screening process to include:
• Background investigation,
• Polygraph
• Psychological
• Medical examination with drug testing

For Certified Lateral Applicants:

• Certified Lateral Candidate must possess a certificate attesting to his or her successful completion of the Minimum Standard Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as prescribed by ILETSB.
• Out-of-State candidates are invited to apply, but must be able to demonstrate that he/she can likely secure a waiver from ILETSB once hired.
• At the time of application, certified lateral applicants must also:
• Be in good standing with his / her current law enforcement agency
• Possess skills and abilities that are substantially equivalent to those possess by a Village of Arlington Heights Police Officer
• Possess all the minimum qualifications described above

Tattoo and Beard Policy:

Visible tattoos are allowed on a limited basis, tattoos are not permitted on the ears, face, head, hands, fingers (except for single wedding band tattoos) or neck. Tattoos are subject to approval by the chief of police.
