The North Carolina Justice Academy (with campuses in Edneyville and Salemburg) provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for law enforcement officers on topics including: anti-terrorism, community oriented policing, criminal investigation, traffic crash investigation, firearms, self-defense, and management and supervision. Additionally, the Academy provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for Detention Officers and Telecommunicators on behalf of the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.
This position is located at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, assigned to the Training Division, and is responsible for researching, developing, and creating law enforcement related in-service training with regard to use of Firearms. This role requires a strong background in firearms knowledge, range management and training development.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct hands-on instruction in firearm handling, shooting techniques, and safety procedures.
Develop and implement firearms training courses.
Monitor and enforce firearm safety rules to ensure a secure training environment.

THE STARTING SALARY FOR A NEW HIRE TO THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO THE RECRUITMENT RANGE OF $53,164 to $67,980. Salary offers are based on candidate's education and experience, as well as departmental budget and equity considerations.

Master's degree in criminology, criminal justice, one of the social sciences, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressively responsible experience in the field in which assigned;
or Bachelor’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, one of the social sciences, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressively responsible experience in the field in which instruction is to be conducted;
or an equivalent combination of education arid experience.
Management preferences: Bachelor's Degree in an associated field with experience in the instruction of Firearms, with 6 or more years of experience in the field of criminal justice.
