What you will be doing:
As our new team member for the EMS 2 position, you will play a vital role within the Disaster Assistance Section of the Public Assistance Branch, focusing on implementing and coordinating grant-funded disaster recovery programs across both state and federal disaster declarations. You will be actively involved in leading and participating in disaster response and recovery field operations, ensuring efficient deployment of resources and support to affected areas, thereby strengthening the state's disaster resilience and recovery efforts.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position's work location on base. The background check may include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. Also, you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. If using a private vehicle this will require a valid Alaska Driver License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.

One year of entry professional level experience mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, or recovering from emergencies, disasters, or terrorist events. The required experience is met by service as an Emergency Management Specialist 1 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Two years of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events.
OR
A bachelor's degree, in any field, from an accredited college;
AND
One year of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events.
Special Note:
A valid Alaska driver's license is required.
Some positions require the incumbent to obtain a federal security clearance.

Specific requirements for the position:
You must be willing and able to travel within the State, including very remote areas, or out of State as needed. Transportation can be via government vehicle, commercial airlines (large and small), very small planes, helicopters, boats, snow machines, and ATVs to remote areas of the state to support the Department`s mission.
Catastrophic disaster emergency response is likely to impose more stringent physical and mental requirements such as: rapid deployment away from home and family, changed work times (day vs. night) and longer shifts (12 hours or more), working in austere facilities, and frequently at tasks very different from day-to-day assignments.
