Hiring Range:

$5,474 - $6,679 Monthly

$65,688 - $80,148 Annually


Salary Range:

$65,688 - $94,608 Annually


The Victim Specialist provides crisis intervention, support, information and connection to victims and witnesses who have experienced a crime or traumatic event.

This position requires a 40-hour work week with the ability to be flexible, working some evening and weekend hours. This position also responds to Critical Events and may require presence in off hours. This position reports directly to the Programs’ Director.

New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month.

  1. Provides direct services to victims of crime and traumatic events, which includes but not limited to, crisis intervention, emotional support, victim right’s information, education on criminal justice system, connection to community resources, and short-term case management.
  2. Provides both trauma-informed and victim- centered approaches when working with victims of crime and traumatic events.
  3. Understands, upholds, and assists in the education of victim rights per statutory and constitutional laws.
  4. Carries a pager and participates on a rotation as a Supervisor On-Call for 7-day cycles.
  5. Responds directly to incidents, as necessary, when paged by law enforcement.
  6. Reviews police reports daily.
  7. Records and maintains data for statistical purposes.
  8. Maintains and updates the programs community resources.
  9. Maintains working relationships within BCSO and outside agencies.
  10. Serves as a liaison between service providers, the District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement personnel and other emergency responders.
  11. Supports and works closely with program volunteer advocates.
  12. Attends meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences as necessary to maintain ongoing knowledge of laws and resources.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or related field
  • Two years of professional experience in related human services field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and proof of a clean driving record
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and a polygraph examination

Requirements:

Must be well organized, detail orientated, and possess a strong work ethic. The ability to work and make decisions independently with minimal supervision. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, peers, supervisors, representatives of cooperating agencies and the public. Ability to deal high stress environments and maintain confidential information.

Bilingual English/Spanish candidates preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Primarily sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and members of the public.
