Description Position serves as a secretary to the Deputy Warden. Performs advanced secretarial duties which are a substantial and essential portion of maintaining the efficient and effective operation of this office, maintaining a high level of confidentiality. At this level, this position has increased responsibility in such areas as interpreting the supervisor’s point of view, serving as liaison to staff and higher-level management, researching and preparing materials for the Deputy Warden, and participating in other assistant activities as identified in the Additional Job Duties. Assists the Deputy Warden in the preparation of facility procedure, budget maintenance, employee performance, and other areas related to custody, housing and programs sections. This position functions as a liaison to other facilities, Central Office, the Deputy Warden and his subordinate staff. This position is located within the secure perimeter of a multi-level facility with a housing capacity of 1952 prisoners.

Education

Experience

Secretary 9
Four years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including one year equivalent to advanced 8-level administrative support work, or equivalent to a Secretary E8, or Legal Secretary E8.

OR

Four years of office experience involving administrative support practices, including two years equivalent to experienced E7-level administrative support work, or equivalent to a Secretary 7, or Legal Secretary 7.

Position Description

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training. PLEASE NOTE: Overnight travel may be required for NCNET.
