Description Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform crime and intelligence analysis. Employees in this classification request and receive raw data in various forms and formats, and perform subsequent analysis and conduct additional research to detect patterns and trends. Work product is in the form of summaries, charts, graphs and related presentation materials for tactical and strategic planning initiatives. Performs related work as directedUses crime data and knowledge of police programs and patrol activities to identify opportunities for proactive policing efforts.

Analyzes police incident reports to determine the type of crime, suspect(s) description, geographical location, time of occurrence, method of operation, vehicles and types of stolen property in support of patrol and investigative activities.

Prepares and disseminates intelligence reports and crime bulletins both internally and externally in an understandable format either orally or in writing or electronically.

Provides recommendations or strategies to be used for apprehending criminals in the form of directed patrol recommendations; extra surveillance, stakeouts, etcetera.

Responds to investigative requests for analytical examination of data and intelligence, preparing demonstrative evidence products for court as needed.

Creates administrative reports relating to the deployment of resources and future projections for personnel allocation needs.

Presents crime analysis related intelligence in an effective format by using Geographic Information System (GIS) to plot areas of criminal activity, calls for service, incident report locations and/or accidents.

Prepares for and actively participates in briefings for command staff, road patrol, and investigative personnel, as needed.

Responds to personnel requests for administrative and strategic analyses to include area analysis studies, background studies, statistical information, and any other studies on demand.

Coordinates and participates in regional intelligence meetings.

Forecasts crime sprees and communicates findings to direct proactive patrol efforts.

Maintains district and zone specific analyses, including crime matrices and statistical reporting.

Keeps abreast of criminal investigative techniques and the Department's reporting procedures through maintaining a close working relationship with officers and investigators.

Routinely confers and collaborates with other Crime Intelligence Analysts within the Department to discuss, determine, review, and identify crime trends, series and patterns and to resolve problems.Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, Information Management, Criminal Justice, or other closely related field; Bachelor's degree preferred; plus two (2) years of professional experience in a law enforcement agency utilizing multiple police information systems, performing research, and compiling crime data; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
