Description This is a part-time position and is scheduled to work less than 1000 hours per fiscal year. Responsible for performing switchboard and reception duties in front lobby of Law Enforcement Center for Brownwood Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office. This person works approximately 19 hours per week or less. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.1) Answer phone calls for Police Department and Sheriff’s Office, routing calls to appropriate offices (10 lines); 2) Greet public and direct them accordingly, notify office personnel; 3) Take walk-in complaints and pass to dispatch; 4) Use computer for inquiry on officer assignments; 5) Maintain lost and found property for pick-up by public; 6) Allow authorized personnel into Police Department and Sheriff’s Office; 7) Keep log for museum key; 8) Take messages from indigents and contact chaplain for action; 9) Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and full time Receptionist.High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate preferred. Experience in overall computer operations and functions.
Skill and ability to operate switchboard and computer system with accuracy, efficiency, and speed. Ability to handle stress and deal with the public. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.Indoors, pleasant and unpleasant conditions. Light physical activity. Ability to sit, stand and move about an office or building. Employees occasionally lift materials weighing approximately 20 to 30 pounds or climbs in order to reach cabinets. Ability to bend and squat in order to file or retrieve information. May be exposed to electrical, mechanical, or chemical hazards when operating or maintaining office equipment. Ability to see and handle small objects. Skill and ability to operate switchboard and computer system with accuracy, efficiency, and speed. Ability to handle stress and deal with the public. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
