Position Details

The Grayslake Police Department currently employs 32 full-time police officers, up to 6 part-time officers, and 3 full-time community service officers, who handle over 30,000 calls for service per year.

Grayslake Police also serve the Village of Hainesville under a police service contract in effect since 2011.

Patrol officers work 12-hour shifts with every other Friday, Saturday, Sunday off.

The department has integrated several industry-leading technologies to improve officer safety, efficiency, performance, community service, and officer well-being.

To take the police officer candidate eligibility exam and become a part of our team, you must be:

  • 21 years of age and less than 35 years of age at the time of applications
  • United States citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma
  • Possess a power test card from NIPSTA or other ILETSB (Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standard Board) certified physical testing facility. Test cannot be older than 9 months before the date of exam.
  • Complete and submit all necessary paperwork (including DD214, birth certificate, power test card, and school transcripts).

Please complete PHQ, PSSA and Video Interview to be considered for the position. Any incomplete applications or hiring process requirements will be grounds for applicant disqualification. A minimum composite score of 65 or greater, when combined with the Police Commission interview score, is required to advance to the eligibility list.
