Job Description

With a full compliment of 335 sworn Troopers, the Maine State Police is the largest law enforcement agency in Maine. Maine State Troopers cover both Maine's Interstate system, as well as its 16 counties. In addition to patrol coverage, the Maine State Police also offers numerous specialty teams and positions, to include Tactical Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, K9 Unit, Crash Reconstruction Unit, Honor Guard, Evidence Response Team, Bomb Team, Underwater Recovery Team, Firearms Unit, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (E.V.O.C), Incident Management Assistance Team and Crowd Management Team, amongst others.

What are the benefits of joining our team?

  • Base Salary: $52,291 - $70,075 (salary includes $.85 hourly stipend - does not include any additional stipends or special pay)
  • A 25-year retirement system with an employee contribution of only 1.15% (remainder is paid by the State). Troopers retire at 50% of their maximum salary while employees working over 25 years receive an additional 2% of retirement pay for each additional year worked beyond 25 years

Job Requirements

  • Age: 21+
  • Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience: None required-will train!

For those who are currently certified Law Enforcement Officers in the State of Maine or from another state, you may be eligible to become a Trooper at our Lateral Advanced Training Program:

  • Must pass the Cooper Physical Fitness Test at the 50th percentile
  • 6 Week Non-Residential Training Troop
  • A few training nights you will know well in advance; Firearms and EVOC Range weeks will have some overnights due to night training
  • Majority of the training is Monday - Friday from 0800 to 1700
  • Field Training

  • 18 Week Residential Basic Law Enforcement Program (BLETP)
  • 6 Week mostly Non-Residential Training Troop
  • A few training nights you will know well in advance; Firearms and EVOC Range weeks will have some overnights due to night training
  • Majority of the training is Monday - Friday from 0800 to 1700
  • Field Training
